LATTICE BOOM

Commonly, there are two types of boom used in mobile cranes, lattice boom or telescoping boom. Lattice boom is usually coupled with a crawler. The lattice is usually pre-designed to have a specific length, however additional beams can be installed to increase the reach of the crane. Lattice boom is generally bulky, and because it is paired with crawler cranes, it is designed to withstand heavier loads. One drawback from the lattice is it is required to be assembled and disassembled and that load can only be attached at the tip.

Here are a list of advantages and disadvantages of a crawler crane:

Disadvantages:

Takes a lot of space to store

Requires assembling/disassemblong of booms

Load attached only at boom tip

Time consuming to adjust boom length, and is not suggested

Advantages:

Can have various boom lengths based on the design

The lattice design makes it more lightweight
